The Long Road is a fan-made site for World of Warcraft: Forever players. This page explains what it collects and why.

Browsing without an account

You can read everything without signing in. If you use the Ask box, your question is stored with a one-way scrambled identifier made from your IP address, so we can limit how many questions one visitor asks and see which questions go unanswered. The raw IP address is not stored.

Signing in with Discord

Signing in uses Discord. We receive your Discord user ID, display name and, if Discord shares it, your email address. We use these only to run your account. We don't send you email. Accounts are for people 13 and older, the same as Discord's own rule.

The launch waitlist

If you join the waitlist, we keep your email address to send one welcome email and one launch announcement, then nothing else unless you sign up for more. Each email has a way to unsubscribe.

What you post

Group listings, guild recruitment posts, guild rosters, raid signups, attendance and loot records are stored so the features work. Group listings expire after a few hours. Guild data is visible only to members of that guild.

Game data you upload

When you upload your addon file, by hand or with the Long Road Uploader, we remove your notes and other players' names from raid groups before storing it, and replace your character names with a one-way code. What remains is game information: quest, NPC and mob locations, your fights, deaths and the paths you walked, your gear and spells, talent trees, recipes and prices. It carries only a random contributor ID. Game facts are published once several players agree on them. If you delete your account, uploads you made stay, with nothing linking them to you.

Your stats page

From your uploads we work out your own leveling pace, where you stand among players at your level, where you lost time, and gear advice. That page (My stats) is visible only to you and to any account you ask us to link, such as a parent's for a child's PC. It becomes public only if you turn on the public switch on that page; leaderboards list you only under a name you choose and only if you opt in.

The Long Road Uploader

The optional Windows app reads only the Long Road Companion file in your World of Warcraft folder, sends it to this site after the game closes, and downloads the addon's live panel data. It talks to nothing else and collects nothing about your PC beyond its name, which labels it on your account page. Disconnect it there, or double-click it to remove it.

Quest pictures

With the uploader installed, the addon takes a screenshot as you pick up or hand in a quest, for the picture of the quest giver on that quest's page. The uploader sends only those screenshots, never your own. Before one leaves your PC it is cut down to the middle of the screen, so your chat, your character's name, party and raid frames, action bars and minimap are not in it, then the screenshot is deleted from your PC. On our side a picture is matched to its quest and scored; the best picture of each quest giver is shown on the site, without your name, and every other copy is deleted. A new contributor's first pictures are checked by a person before they can appear. Other players or their names can still be in the middle of a picture; tell us and we'll take it down.

Cookies

A sign-in cookie keeps you logged in. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

Who processes the data

The site runs on Vercel and Supabase. Discord handles sign-in. Questions to the Ask box are answered by Anthropic's Claude, which receives the question and the game facts used to answer it, not who asked.

Your choices

You can delete your account at any time on the account page, which removes your sign-in, profile and posts right away. For anything else, including a copy of your data, email hello@thelongroad.io.
